Funding Opportunities and Support Networks for Women Entrepreneurs in the European Union

One of the difficulties or observations made by the women participating in our project is how to access funding or support networks that help bring a business idea to reality. The European Union offers some options that provide interesting possibilities for women who want to innovate, and here are some of them:

  1. WEgate: European portal for female entrepreneurship that generates opportunities for women to do business, expand their networks, and learn to reach their full potential. It connects entrepreneurs with support organizations and other women to establish alliances, and it is a source of information on news, events, webinars, and online learning resources.
  2. Women Entrepreneurship Sector Group (WEG): Part of Enterprise Europe Network, the largest European support network for SMEs with an international focus. This sectoral group of women entrepreneurs works to identify clients, access innovation services, and join existing networks of women entrepreneurs. It has a Facebook group that connects businesswomen with innovation support activities.
  3. Shemakes: Empowers innovative women in the sustainable fashion industry through inspiration, training, and networks. Funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 program, it promotes equality in the textile and clothing sector, helping women become aware of their key role.

In the technological field, the EU has initiatives to break stereotypes and increase women's participation:

  1. Women TechEU: Supports startups led by women in deep tech (advanced technology). It offers advice, mentoring, and specific funding to help take their tech businesses to the next level.
  2. UE Prize for Women Innovators: Awards granted by the European Innovation Council (EIC) that recognize businesswomen with successful and innovative companies, inspiring more women to follow in their footsteps.

For new avenues of financing:

  • Lean in EU Women Business Angels: Network created in 2017 to help the European community of women business angels and entrepreneurs access alternative financing and increase the visibility of female investors, operating in 10 EU countries.
  • Women Business Angels for Women Entrepreneurs (WA4E): Operating in six countries, this network was created by Business Angels Europe to support women-led projects.
